We took a team of year 5 and 6 children along to Brackley Cricket Club for the Cricket Festival on Tuesday 27th June. We played two pool matches against Bracken Leas and Brackley Junior School before playing Croughton in the play off match. Everyone showed great sportsmanship and thank you to Mr. Blithe who willingly took on the role of coach for the afternoon!
Crowned "Small Schools Winners" at Brackley Schools Athletics Festival - Wednesday14th/Thursday 15th June
This week saw us compete with a KS2 and KS1 team at the Brackley Cluster Athletics Festival at Brackley Junior School. The KS1 team put in a fantastic performance on Wednesday with Harry Wilson claiming 1st place in the sprint final and both year 1 and 2 winning their relay races. This put is in a strong position for the KS2 event on Thursday which saw us feature in the year 3 boys, year 4 boys, year 4 girls and year 5 girls finals. Ruben Chatfield won the year 4 boys race and Milly Wilson came 2nd in the year 4 girls race.
With all this success on the track and field, we finished in 3rd place overall and were crowned "Small Schools Winners". Very well done to all the children who took part.
Success at Cluster Hockey Festival!
The year 3/4 hockey team came away as winners of the Brackley Cluster Hockey Festival on Monday 24th April! We got off to a great start with a 4-0 against Syresham and then a 7-3 win against Southfield. This saw us qualify for the Winners group to decide 1st - 3rd place. We had a tense match against Bracken Leas which saw us draw 2-2 and then a convincing 5-0 win against Croughton. As Croughton and Bracken Leas drew 1-1 in their match, we finished in 1st place and will be going on to represent the Cluster at the District Finals on May 25th. Well done to all the team who demonstrated fantastic team work and excellent hockey skills.
Year 1/2 and 3/4 Cluster Gymnastics competition - Monday 27th March
Year 5 and 6 Netball Tournament - Monday 27th March
This week saw the rearranged netball tournament take place at Magdalen. We took a strong squad of 9 and the format saw all
children play different positions during the afternoon. We played some great netball, only lost 1 game and held the tournament winners to a draw in our match. The squad displayed fantastic teamwork and kept battling through every game, resulting in 5 drawn matches! We narrowly missed out on 4th place, finishing a respectable 5th. Congratulations to everyone involved.
We took a strong team to this tournament with Jessica Newlands and Ella Hamilton having recently taken part in a basketball club at Magdalen with children from a number of local different schools.
The format for this event is 3-a-side with the boys playing in the first half and the girls playing in the second half. We had 6 matches throughout the tournament. We started really well with a win over Syresham and went on to beat Newbottle and Charlton later on in the afternoon. We had some very close matches and had no substitutes for the boys so George Spencer, Hadyn Benstead and Huw Gosney worked really hard all afternoon. We finished 5th overall and once again the children were a credit to the school.
Year 5 and 6 Indoor Athletics Festival - Wednesday 11th January
Year 5 and 6 Cluster Tag Rugby Festival - Wednesday 12th October
We took a mixed squad of year 5 and 6 children along to the first cluster event of the year, held at Brackley Rugby Club. The festival was organised as a round robin tournament where we got to play all the school teams involved. We played 7 games in total and made a great start to the event with a solid win against Brackley Junior School and Syresham. We were held to a very close game to Bracken Leas B team, only losing by 1 point and went on to win against Newbottle and Charlton. We finished in fourth place (missing out on 3rd place by 1 point), Thomas Tims received an award for showing passion and determination throughout the afternoon. The team were a fantastic credit to the school and displayed great sportsmanship - well done everyone!
