Success at Cluster Hockey Festival!

The year 3/4 hockey team came away as winners of the Brackley Cluster Hockey Festival on Monday 24th April! We got off to a great start with a 4-0 against Syresham and then a 7-3 win against Southfield. This saw us qualify for the Winners group to decide 1st - 3rd place. We had a tense match against Bracken Leas which saw us draw 2-2 and then a convincing 5-0 win against Croughton. As Croughton and Bracken Leas drew 1-1 in their match, we finished in 1st place and will be going on to represent the Cluster at the District Finals on May 25th. Well done to all the team who demonstrated fantastic team work and excellent hockey skills.

Congratulations to Jake, Luke, Joseph, Thomas and Sophie (and coach, Sam!) who won the Hotshots schools tournament in March. Great work!

Year 1/2 and 3/4 Cluster Gymnastics competition - Monday 27th March

We took a squad of 8 children to Newbottle & Charlton for the first gymnastics competition held within the cluster. All children were required to perform a floor routine and a vault, in front of 2 judges from Brackley Gymnastics Club, aswell as the other competitors and spectators. This took a lot of courage and all gymnasts responded to the occasion very well. We finished 3rd overall and a special mention for Henry Rogers who finished in 2nd place in the year 1/2 group. Well done to all the children, they were fantastic ambassadors for the school.

Year 5 and 6 Netball Tournament - Monday 27th March

This week saw the rearranged netball tournament take place at Magdalen. We took a strong squad of 9 and the format saw all

children play different positions during the afternoon. We played some great netball, only lost 1 game and held the tournament winners to a draw in our match. The squad displayed fantastic teamwork and kept battling through every game, resulting in 5 drawn matches! We narrowly missed out on 4th place, finishing a respectable 5th. Congratulations to everyone involved.

Year 4 and 5 Basketball Festival - Wednesday 1st March
Picture 1

We took a strong team to this tournament with Jessica Newlands and Ella Hamilton having recently taken part in a basketball club at Magdalen with children from a number of local different schools.

The format for this event is 3-a-side with the boys playing in the first half and the girls playing in the second half. We had 6 matches throughout the tournament. We started really well with a win over Syresham and went on to beat Newbottle and Charlton later on in the afternoon. We had some very close matches and had no substitutes for the boys so George Spencer, Hadyn Benstead and Huw Gosney worked really hard all afternoon. We finished 5th overall and once again the children were a credit to the school.

Year 5 and 6 Indoor Athletics Festival - Wednesday 11th January

We took a small squad to the Indoor Athletics Festival on a cold January afternoon at Magdalen. This event is a mixture of track and field events such as, speed bounce, standing triple jump, 6 lap paarlauf and 4 x 1 lap relays. The boys started on the field events, with an impressive performance from Freddie Webster on the speed bounce and George Spencer in the chest push. The girls made a positive start on the track with Jasmine Bailey recovering from a stumble on the turning boards to run very strongly and win her race. Alice Rendell produced an excellent performance in the standing triple jump and Haydn Benstead showed great explosive speed in the 2 x 2 lap relay with Freddie Webster to help record a very good time. The girls team finished in 5th place, with the boys in 7th, resulting in an overall placing of 6th. Well done to all the children who competed in a high number of events, showing determination and a positive attitude throughout.

Year 5 and 6 Cluster Tag Rugby Festival - Wednesday 12th October

We took a mixed squad of year 5 and 6 children along to the first cluster event of the year, held at Brackley Rugby Club. The festival was organised as a round robin tournament where we got to play all the school teams involved. We played 7 games in total and made a great start to the event with a solid win against Brackley Junior School and Syresham. We were held to a very close game to Bracken Leas B team, only losing by 1 point and went on to win against Newbottle and Charlton. We finished in fourth place (missing out on 3rd place by 1 point), Thomas Tims received an award for showing passion and determination throughout the afternoon. The team were a fantastic credit to the school and displayed great sportsmanship - well done everyone!
