Welcome back to school - I hope everyone has had a fantastic summer and are ready for all the challenges Year 6 brings!
The Autumn Term timetable can be found within the 'In Class' section below. We will always try to adhere to it, however, there may be times when our weekly schedule changes - if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via email: T.Pearson@helmdon.org
Year 6 is a challenging year.
At home, it is vital that you read every day (discussing your reading with teachers in school or parents at home); learn weekly spellings and endeavour to use the words in your writing; and continue to practise your multiplication tables (and inverse division facts) - remember: you can use your log-in/password to compete against children all over the world via the TTRockstars website. I will be running a 'Times Tables Club' every Wednesday lunchtime for those children who do not know the required facts - I cannot stress how difficult the Year 6 maths curriculum is if multiplication tables are not at a child's fingertips.
In class, we will be reading the novel 'Goodnight Mr Tom' by Michelle Magorian. The children will be provided with their own copy (if anyone already has a copy at home, please let me know) and will be expected to keep up-to-date with the reading homework.
Homework will be set every week. Everyone will be expected to complete all tasks on/before the specified deadline.
In addition to weekly spelling tests, as a rule, the following will be set every week:
Reading: set Thursday, to be completed by the following Wednesday
Grammar: set Friday, to be completed by the following Thursday
Maths: set Monday, to be completed by the following Friday (same week)
Details of the subjects for each term can be found on the Curriculum pages - again, please feel free to see/email me if there are any queries.
If you need to speak to me, please use my email address - T.Pearson@helmdon.org - or pop in to the classroom before the start of the school day. I am also available at the end of the school day on Wednesdays (please note: this is the only whole day that I am in school).
Many thanks for your continued support!
