Healthy Me Week Monday 20th - Friday 23rd February
We wanted the children to think about the importance of mental health aswell as physical health during the week & had designed lots of different activities for them to do. We had watched the film "Inside Out" before half term and used the film as the basis for assembly during the week. Each class were given an "acts of kindness" box and the children were encouraged to take a name out of the box and do an act of kindness for that person. They all had the chance to do some mindfulness colouring and yoga.
We kicked the week off on Monday with a visit from Northampton Town Football club. Each class had a 30 minute session with their community coaches, followed by a question and answer session in the afternoon with 2 of the 1st team players. On Wednesday Mrs Benstead ran a wonderful relaxation session with everyone using essential oils and calming music. Lee Willis from OTSMA Karate came along on Thursday to run a "positive thinking" workshop and we ended the week on a high with the Helmdon Warrior Challenge. This was a muddy obstacle run around the field, avoiding the teachers with water pistols!
Every child took part in a healthy eating workshop. They had the chance to make a fruit kebab or chicken wrap, guess the amount of sugar in different foods, pack a healthy lunchbox and try some new foods such as pomegranates, radishes and feta cheese.
