Homework

Spelling tests are every Wednesday. Spelling lists are uploaded to Class Dojo every Thursday ready for the following week's test. Here are some ideas to help children learn their spellings.

For those looking for additional guidance or work, please see the RWI section of the Useful Documents folder where you will find all the red and green words from the programme as well as handwriting support.

Daily reading is really important in Year 1. Please sign the reading record every time you read with your child.

Reading for Pleasure

Learning to read is hard work and reading for pleasure - reading to or with your child - and sharing stories is vital in Year 1. The key to success is finding a regular time that suits - this could be dinner time, just before bath, bedtime, at breakfast, in the car before school - and reading "little and often." If your child enjoys a particular book or story and wants to read it time and again, that's absolutely fine: the more familiar they become with a book, the more they will develop fluency and understanding - both are crucial for reading.

But, what to read?

Please use the links below for book suggestions: many are available to borrow from Brackley Library.
