Health
At Helmdon Primary School, we understand the need for everyone in our school to have a healthy lifestyle. This helps pupils and staff to do their best and build on their achievements. We actively promote physical and emotional health, and aim to equip pupils with the understanding and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health, both now and in the future. By championing healthy eating, healthy lifestyles and emotional health and well-being, we are aiming to continue to raise standards and improve levels of pupil achievement.

Mental Health and Well Being at Helmdon Primary School
At Helmdon Primary School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff. Our inclusive curriculum is driven by an ethos of educating the whole child and we know that a healthy child is one who feels happy and safe. We encourage kindness throughout the school both to others and to ourselves and this is embedded throughout our school ethos. We are committed to providing the children with the skills, tools and environment in which to thrive. We feel it is essential to provide children with information to enable them to make life long, well-informed decisions about their diet and health. We recognise that children's mental health and overall wellbeing can affect their learning and achievement and therefore positive wellbeing is promoted throughout the curriculum and all school activities.
We are very proud to work with the Mental Health Support Team and a whole school audit is guiding our practise to ensure we provide the best possible mental health and wellbeing support for everyone. As a Mental Health Support Team School, we can access a range of interventions to support both children and families in worry management, sleep difficulties, problem solving, simple phobias and thought challenging. If you have any concerns about your child’s mental health or well-being, please do not hesitate to speak to your child’s class teacher or the school’s mental health lead and SENDCO (Mrs Jenkins)
At Helmdon we aim to create a supportive and caring environment for everyone where each individual contribution is valued. We understand that at times, children may need additional emotional support and therefore have welcomed the opportunity to work alongside the MHST to provide support in many different ways.
At Helmdon we aim to:
· help children to understand their emotions and feelings better using the Zones of Regulation
· help children socially to form and maintain relationships through interventions such as Playbuddies
· promote self-esteem and ensure children know that they are all special in their own way
· help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
· help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks.
We promote a mentally healthy environment through:
· The promotion of our school values and encouraging a sense of belonging and kindness
· Providing opportunities to develop a sense of worth through taking responsibility for themselves and others
· The promotion of pupil and parent voice
· Celebrating academic and non-academic achievements
· Providing opportunities to reflect
· Access to available support to help with mental health and wellbeing needs.
